Resumen: En este trabajo, abordaremos de manera heurística algunas de las
múltiples maneras de conceptualizar la complejidad cultural, histórica y política
que atraviesa a los discursos de América Latina. En particular, el objetivo general
será retomar los aportes de Laclau (2005) y Quijano (2000, 2014) para pensar su
modo de introducir la categoría de lo heterogéneo en el estudio de lo social y su
concepción de la totalidad social. La hipótesis de este trabajo consiste en soste-
ner que ambos autores, a pesar de provenir de registros diferentes y de poseer,
por ende, versiones diferentes en torno a lo heterogéneo, comparten una tesis
clave: para el estudio de lo social, es necesario pensar en totalidades abiertas, es
decir, que lo social se encuentra siempre atravesado por la contingencia. Este
punto de anclaje común, a su vez, resulta un potencial núcleo de renovación teó-
rica capaz de abordar particularmente las complejidades de los registros discur-
sivos de nuestro continente.

Latin American discourses. In particular, the general objective will be to take up
the contributions of Laclau (2005) and Quijano (2000, 2014) to think about their
way of introducing the category of the heterogeneous in the study of the social
and their conception of social totality. The hypothesis of this paper is to argue
that both authors, despite coming from different registers and thus possessing
different versions of the heterogeneous, share a key thesis: for the study of the
social, it is necessary to think in open totalities, i.e., that the social is always cros-
sed by contingency. This common anchor point, in turn, results in a potential
nucleus of theoretical renewal capable of addressing in particular the complexi-
ties of the discursive registers of our continent.
