The Sociology of Work in San Juan, Argentina (1971-2024)

Abstract
The purpose of this article is to highlight the role and significance of the Sociology of Work within the Sociology Program at the Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of San Juan (FACSO-UNSJ). To this end, we analyzed undergraduate theses evaluated in the program from 1971 to 2024. These theses were identified and classified based on their affiliation to different subdisciplines, according to their titles and abstracts. Using a statistical-descriptive approach, we examined the prominence of the Sociology of Work. Additionally, we compared the topics addressed in the theses with the issues explored in research projects conducted by the Research and Study Office in Sociology (GEIS) and the Institute of Socioeconomic Research (IISE).
Our working hypothesis suggests that specialized sociologies (health, education, urban, rural, organizational) have a greater presence in the theses compared to the Sociology of Work, as the latter is not considered a specialized subdiscipline. However, the results show that the Sociology of Work ranks as the second most frequently addressed and recognized thesis topic, demonstrating sustained growth throughout the history of the program.
