Abstract

The notion of “Democracy” is a complex concept to approach for analysis. The truth is that it becomes elusive because it does not have a unilateral or universal sense, there is no Democracy, but Democracies.

Throughout the history of Western cultures in particular, the articulation of the democratic system has manifested itself in various ways. If we go back to its origin, we should look at ancient Greek culture. In traditional historiography, as well as in the textbooks of secondary education and in the curricula of some university professors, the “origin of democracy” goes back to the 5th century B.C., the famous century of Pericles.
