Abstract
This study analyzes the research trajectories of scholarship students from the Faculty of Social Sciences (FACSO) at the National University of San Juan, belonging to the 2019, 2020, and 2021 cohorts, considered “newcomers” to the scientific-academic field. It examines their capitals, practices, and strategies to access, remain, and establish themselves in this sphere.
The research focuses on those who obtained scholarships through the Incentive for Scientific Vocations program of the National Interuniversity Council (EVC-CIN) and the Council for Scientific and Technical Research and Artistic Creation (CICITCA). The time frame includes the pre-pandemic, pandemic, and post-pandemic stages—a context that generated significant changes in the scholarships, particularly due to modifications in their regulations. This allowed for a comparison of strategies and work modalities before, during, and after the health emergency, identifying adaptations and challenges in these early-stage trajectories.
The theoretical framework is based on Bourdieu’s Reflexive Sociology, drawing on key categories as a “toolbox.” In line with this, we apply Methodological Relationism. This comprehensive approach makes it possible to understand how the pandemic context and institutional transformations influenced the first steps of young researchers in the university social sciences field.
