Author Biography

Ana María Dupey, National Folklore Academy – National Institute of Anthropology and Latin American Thought (INAPL)

She holds a PhD in Sociology from the Catholic University of Argentina (UCA), a degree in Anthropological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), and is an Associate Professor of General Folklore at the same university. She works as a researcher and is currently a consultant for the National Institute of Anthropology and Latin American Thought (INAPL). She has served as a juror for the UNESCO Prize for Handicrafts in Latin America, 1992; the Promotion Competition for Supervisor of the Handicraft and Technical Area for the Classification Board of the City of Buenos Aires, 1993; the A. R. Cortazar Traditional Handicrafts Fair, Cosquín, 1996-1997; the III National Photography Competition “The World of Artisans and Handicrafts,” National Secretariat of Culture, 1998; and the X Provincial Exhibition of Textile Art, Ceramics, and Handicrafts, Directorate of Culture, Río Negro, 1998. XXVI National Poncho Festival, 2006 and Traditional Crafts Exhibition at the SRA Livestock, Agriculture and Industry Exhibition, 2000 to 2017. She developed research and development projects on crafts funded by the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), the Organization of American States (OAS), the National Arts Fund (FONDART), and the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion (ANPCyT). As a consultant, she addressed the Enhancement of Indigenous Culture Crafts in Paraguay for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in 2018 and the State of the Art of Safeguarding Policies for Intangible Cultural Heritage in Argentina with Fernanda Pensa for CRESPIAL in 2019. She has published extensively in the field of crafts; among her most recent publications are: “The Institutionalization of Craft Activity and Occupational Folklore,” 2004; and “Contemporary Artisans: Between Creation and the Market,” 2012. “Religious imagery in the Argentine Republic. The relationship of the santero with his work” 2016.
