Álvarez has a degree in anthropology from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina, and a PhD in Humanities from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Xochimilco, México. In her undergraduate training she combined archaeological practices with socioanthropological theory, bioanthropological research, and training in forensic anthropology. For a decade she was dedicated to teaching anthropology at the secondary level and in non-university teacher training. She coordinated a specialization course for teachers in contexts of confinement, was part of the technical team of adult education of the Ministry of Education of her home province, Córdoba, and was a member of the Human Rights Observatory of the National University of Río Cuarto, her hometown. She has been living in Mexico since 2016. With the guidance of Mario Rufer, in 2018 she obtained a Master's degree in Communication and Politics at UAM-X. With the same supervision, she has earned a PhD in Humanities from the same university, in the line of Cultural Studies and Postcolonial Criticism. Her reflections address the link between archaeology and power, expressed in the production of images and official narratives about the past and the exhibition-pedagogical function of public museums. She also explores the possible connections between these images and narratives, and the ways of signifying contemporary violence in Mexico.
