I Twerk Alone. Critique Of The Reggaeton Reason

Abstract

Is reggaeton intrinsically misogynistic? That question invited us to question the naturalizations that have affcted the Latin musical genre with greater signifiance in recent decades. Reviewing its history, and having as an analytical axis the gesture of semiological denaturalization inaugurated by Roland Barthes in Mythologies, we will address some elements that we consider conditioning for the stigmatization of reggaetón. Within the framework of late capitalism, the political, media and judicial powers implement destabilization strategies aimed at certain sectors, while the music industry responds to market dynamics, shaping its production according to consumer demand. Positioning our initial question within the proposed analytical frameworks, we will try to fid some foundations of hate messages in music, specifially on gender issues
