THE MEANING OF THE COLLECTION. THE COLLECTOR'S LOOK ON THE COLLECTOR'S PIECE AND ITS VALUE AS A MASS WORK OF ART

Abstract

In this work we intend to think about what it means to be collector, what is the meaning of a museum and what is the meaning of the collection. For this we have as a theoretical framework the contributions of some aesthetic-political essays by Walter Benjamin and Angus Fletcher's definition of allegory. In this context we will work with the collectors Agustín Gnecco and Eduard Fuchs. Under these considerations we take the collector's item as a work of art for the masses and an aesthetic object for the people. The collector's item is valued as a work of art, because the collector, by rescuing it from its objectification, resignifies it and gives it meaning. We wanted to start with the history of Agustín Gnecco because we believe that in them we find highly relevant elements such as the tradition and legacy of the collection. The Argentine collector made a large part of his collection on San Juan soil, forming the museum that bears his name.
