Abstract

Within the framework of the Prototypical Cognitive Approach (ECP), which assumes that every use of a form is significant, this paper presents a study on the coordinated clause, in a corpus of riddles. Through a quantitative and qualitative analysis, we try to investigate what motivates the use of this linguistic form in said discursive genre. It is postulated as a hypothesis that the presence of coordination in the riddle is related to the communicative intention of this text type: to guide the receiver/listener towards the appropriate answer. Taking into account the topic of this investigation, the parameters that were chosen are iconicity, presence of a negation operator and identity or high de facto connection.
